How UniMate collects, uses and protects your data — account info, study progress, device storage, your rights and how to request deletion.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address and password (stored securely through Firebase Authentication). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google — we never see your Google password.
Study activity
To make the app work, we store your study data: enrolled course and semester, syllabus progress, attendance marks, quiz and mock-test attempts, planner entries and leaderboard scores. This data is stored in Cloud Firestore and is visible only to your account (plus your teachers, if your college uses teacher accounts).
On your device
We use your browser's local storage for preferences like theme settings and cached study content so the app loads fast and works smoothly. This data stays on your device.
What we do not collect
We do not run advertisements, we do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share your data with third parties for marketing. Analytics, if used, are limited to understanding which features students use so we can improve the app.
Website chat and callbacks
Our website has an AI chat assistant that answers your questions about UniMate. Chat messages are processed to generate a reply and are not stored. If you ask for a callback, we ask for your name and mobile number — this "lead" information is stored securely so our team can contact you. We use it only to respond to your request and never share it with third parties for marketing.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To save and sync your study progress across your devices.
- To show your timetable, attendance and leaderboard correctly.
- To respond when you contact us for help.
- To improve features and fix problems in the app.
Data security
Account authentication and data storage run on Google Firebase infrastructure with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Access to production data is restricted to the small team that operates UniMate. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Your choices
- Access and correction: your profile and study data are visible inside the app; contact us if something looks wrong.
- Deletion: want your account and data deleted? Message us on WhatsApp from the contact page and we will delete your account and associated study data.
- Marketing: we do not send marketing emails or messages. Any message from us is about your account or a reply to your own query.
Children's privacy
UniMate is designed for college and university students. If you are under 18, please use the app with a parent or guardian's permission.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date above. Continued use of UniMate after a change means you accept the updated policy.
