How the 75% rule works

Most Indian universities require at least 75% attendance to sit in semester exams. Fall below it and you can be debarred — no matter how well you studied.

Tips to stay above 75%

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my attendance percentage?

Divide the number of classes you attended by the total classes held, then multiply by 100. Example: 32 attended out of 45 = 71.1%.

How many classes can I miss and stay above 75%?

Use the calculator above — enter your attended and total classes and it tells you exactly how many more you can miss while staying at or above 75%.

What happens if attendance falls below 75%?

In most Indian universities you can be debarred from semester exams. Some universities allow a small condonation for medical reasons, but the rules are strict.

Does the 75% rule apply per subject or overall?

Most universities apply it per subject (and overall). One subject below 75% can mean a backlog in that subject — track each subject separately.

Do holidays and cancelled classes count?

No — only classes actually held count in the total. But a class you skipped for a college event usually still counts as absent unless officially condoned.
