CGPA Calculator
Free CGPA calculator: combine your semester SGPAs into an overall CGPA (credit-weighted or simple average), with percentage conversion and FAQs.
How to calculate CGPA
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) combines all your semester SGPAs into one number for the whole degree. Two common methods:
- Simple average: add all SGPAs and divide by the number of semesters. Quick and common.
- Credit-weighted: (SGPA × semester credits) summed, divided by total credits. More accurate when semesters carry different credits.
This calculator uses the credit-weighted method when you enter credits, otherwise the simple average. Both are accepted by different universities — check which one yours uses.
CGPA to percentage
The widely used approximation is Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Some universities use ×10 or their own formula, so confirm with your university's official rule before using it on resumes or applications.
Frequently asked questions
What is CGPA?
CGPA is the Cumulative Grade Point Average — a single number on the 10-point scale that summarises your performance across all semesters of your degree.
How do I calculate CGPA from SGPA?
Add up all your semester SGPAs and divide by the number of semesters. For a more precise result, weight each SGPA by that semester's total credits.
What is a good CGPA for placements?
Many companies set cutoffs around 7.0–7.5 CGPA. A CGPA of 8.0+ keeps almost all placement options open, but skills and projects matter too.
Can I improve my CGPA in later semesters?
Yes. Since CGPA is cumulative, strong later semesters steadily pull it up — especially semesters with more credits.
Is CGPA the same in every university?
The 10-point concept is common, but grade scales, credit systems and percentage-conversion formulas differ. Always follow your university's official rules.
